About this guide
A closer look at Puerto Rico’s birds.
A free, browsable collection of 126 species records across 44 bird groups.
What you’ll find
Species pages provide common and scientific names, photographs, distribution and habitat information, breeding details and conservation text. Some records also include descriptions, diet, calls and threats. These are the records included in this guide, rather than a complete checklist of every bird recorded in Puerto Rico.
How to identify a bird
Start with the photo catalogue, or search by common name, scientific name or description. Open a species to compare its appearance and habitat. Use several characteristics together; an illustration alone may not distinguish age, sex or seasonal plumage.
Sources and credits
The site’s source credits list PRBBA, USDA and the U.S. Forest Service and link to this reference publication. These credits are retained from the existing guide. Individual records may contain citations within their text; consult the linked source and those citations for their original context.
Reading the records responsibly
Conservation information, distribution and taxonomy can change. The existing records do not establish a recent, independent verification date for each field. Treat historical status statements accordingly and check current primary sources before making conservation or research decisions. A missing field means this guide has not supplied that information. Bird groups are browsing categories and are not always formal taxonomic families.
Explore with care
Observe birds from a respectful distance, avoid disturbing nests, and follow local access rules. This guide does not provide live sightings or guarantee that a species is present at a particular place.
For readers and automated assistants
Species pages are the canonical references for individual records. The AI reading guide links to Markdown versions of the same records, while the sitemap lists the canonical web pages. These formats do not grant additional rights to the photographs or source text.
